SID's Journeys: The Remnant

My discoveries on my previous missions did not go unnoticed. I have been briefed for a completely different type of scouting mission. For this one, I don't report to my Scoutmaster, but directly to Anrachi command. The destination- a planet that no longer exists... Kaasiar.

While in the Anrachi orbital unit, I was given a full breakdown of my objective. Kaasiar was a large and influential planet in the system. In an unprecedented move, Kaasiar allied with the Allegiance forces against The Black Palace. My creator's world of Anrach is also part of the Allegiance and participated in joint operations with Kaasiar. As the war progressed, The Black Palace unleashed a bioweapon species upon Kassair known as The Accursed. Kaasiar was completely decimated in a matter of hours and destroyed as The Accursed devoured the planet's core. It was believed that the planet was nothing but space dust, until now.

Anrachi scout ships started covert surveying missions in the former orbit cycle of Kaasiar. Scans confirmed that there were remnants of the once-thriving planet. From these remnants was a large mass of Kaasair's outer crust. Mapping systems were referenced and confirmed that this mass was part of the Grand Valley mainland, not too far from the great city of Grenwood. What the mapping systems also confirmed is that there may be critical assets on the space mass. This is where I come in.

Based on all the briefings I've received, there could be a secure operational base on the remnants of the dead planet. The remnants have also been codenamed as: K-GV. If the base is intact, there are highly classified war plans and schematics that are critical to the ongoing war. K-GV has no atmosphere and is orbiting through highly volatile space debris. This makes an organic manned mission nearly impossible, plus Black Palace patrols may be around to detect any fully manned operations. My Anrachi orbiter is compact and capable of remaining unnoticed, allowing me to be deployed into K-GV to locate the hidden base.

Anrachi command was impressed by my success on Qibbi and Catovaz. They believe I can make this mission a success. They also know this is the highest-stakes mission I've ever done. I'm now equipped with direct link surveillance to Anrach intelligence. I was also equipped with a critical failsafe. Should anything go wrong, they have the right to destroy me and any data that I have gathered. The pressure is high, but I felt ready. Ready to fulfill my duty and go where no one has gone before.

The orbital descent was fast. It felt faster than usual. This could've been on purpose to quickly speed by any detection in the area. I hit the surface, hard. The rocky surface was brittle, and chunks broke off easily and flew around. Fully online, I started to set up my scanners. These scanners were specialized for underground detection. If the base is still on this mass, it would have to be set underground. Before starting my full survey, I took a look around at the bare surface. Hard to believe that this was part of a fully civilized planet full of life. Reflecting on this history wasn't part of my mission, so I started to move ahead..
