Null & Void: Log One - Should've Read the Fine Print

Updated: Apr 9

The transcript of the first recovered audio log was found at Site 237-A, Sector G.

Is this thing working?

(tapping on the mic, followed by a brief crackle of static)

Wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't. Everything else has gone to the void.

Uh, my name is Radruk'gren. But only my mom called me that. I just tell people to call me Ruck and keep it simple. I...uh...don't really know what I'm supposed to be talking about so I'll just keep talking until I run out of stuff to say, I guess.

I came down here for what was supposed to be a simple mining expedition. The site we were going to was rated low-danger, already explored, already cleared, just a basic go-get-the-shinies kind of deal. Yeah, that was a fucking joke.

Turns out, the reason this place was rated that way was that the survey team never turned in an official report, so the computer green-lit the area as A-okay. And the reason they never turned in a report is because the unlucky bastards never came back at all!

Guess I should've read the fine print before signing up to come down here.

What kind of stupid roak is that? I swear, the people in charge of operations gotta be the lowest life forms in the Universe. I'd sooner trust a nibbler with my sandwich than a bureaucrat to make a smart decision.

We hit planetside, got our shit laid out in the bunkhouses, and got to work. When we found the bodies it was already too late. Not sure how everything played out. I got knocked in the head and woke up locked in the bunkrooms. My guess is someone got me to safety before eating it and the surviving crew took off back to Brarocolyn. Now, I'm stuck here with no clue what to do. Just me, recycled air, and whatever’s scratching at the north wall.

(there's the sound of a deep sigh and the creaking of a chair)

All I remember from orientation is if you find yourself alone turn on the recorder and start keeping records of everything. There's gotta be something here that can tell me...something. I dunno, maybe I'm just screwed. But unless I want to roll over and let the cyanovores chew on me, I gotta get to work.

Hopefully, this isn't my last time talking to...whoever listens to this.

Ruck out.

(end of recording)
