Null & Void: Log Two - Slim Pickings

Transcript of the second recovered log. Found at Site 237-A, Sector G.

(The camera turns on, and Radruk'gren is shown furrowing his brow at the camera. The screen shakes, then he sits back into a chair that creaks loudly.)

About time I got this damn thing to work right? Y'all know I was hired to dig holes, right? The most complex thing I work with is a driller and the occasional explosive.

(Ruck claps his hands and rubs them together.)

Alright, it's only been a few hours since I woke up, and I figured the best thing to do was gather supplies. And, oh boy, I found some supplies.

(Ruck holds up a plastic container and shakes it, rattling the contents.)

Let's take a look at the haul.

(He puts the container down and holds up several clear plastic bags with blue tops.)

This right here is the most important thing. Water. These little guys here are 100%, pure recycled water, straight from the processing pipes of the finest rusty pipes on Brarcolyn. The bag itself is biodegradable, edible, and tastes like something you lick from under the sink. But, it's free calories, so that's something. I found about thirty of these guys, so if I ration them, I'll keep from dying of dehydration for a little over a week.

(Ruck leans close to the camera.)

Yeah, finding the water purifier is going to be job one. Water is life, and if I have to drink something from the puddles outside, I might end up with a second head, and I don't need another mouth to feed.

(Ruck sits back and pulls out a handful of packages wrapped in silver foil.)

These are nutrient bars. Calorie-dense and packed with all the vitamins and minerals a stranded miner needs. One a day keeps you barely alive, and the taste makes you regret that choice. Think salty, fire-roasted, mud and you'll just about get the picture. There are twenty of them, so that'll keep me breathing for a while, but after water, food will be the next thing I need to address.

(Ruck drops the bars back into the container and rolls his neck.)

Yeah, that's about it. Slim pickings all around. I mean, there are clothes that don't fit me, and tools I don't know how to use, and a lot of empty rooms. We hadn't been here long enough to offload much of our supplies so I'm stuck with the bare minimum of shit.

(There's a thud somewhere off-screen, and Ruck points toward the wall. He goes silent as the sound of scratching on metal is heard on camera.)

And there's that. I don't know what that is, and I could go my whole life without ever finding out.

I gotta get some sleep. There's work to be done in the morning. Ruck out!
