Null and Void: Log Four - Down the Hatch

Transcript of the fourth recovered log. Found at Site 237-A, Sector G.

(static flares across the screen as the picture comes to life. The subject's face can be seen up close as he stares into the lens. The mic crackles as he blows into it, then appears to affix the camera to something. The subject’s upper body and face are visible, and the perspective shifts with his movements.)

Alright! I got this thing fixed up so you can come along with me and witness my bad decisions as they happen. I figured if I die doing something stupid, I might as well record it. Might make a killer safety video for the next batch of miners.

(Subject turns around and leans backward to keep the hatch in frame, showing a hatch that has been welded shut.)

So, I found this the other day. Zaman only knows how long it's been sealed shut. I checked some blueprints I found of this place, and it lists the area below as some kind of research and development area. Which is weird, because there's already one of those in one of the outlying buildings. That tells me they sealed the original R&D department up and built a new one. The question is, why?

(Subject smiles broadly, showing his teeth and widens his eyes.)

Every instinct said 'Ruck, they sealed it for a reason. One you don't wanna mess with.' So obviously, I’m cutting it open. Lens down, flame on!

(Camera cuts off, then comes back on, showing the subject using a plasma cutter to cut through the welds on the hatch. The door falls down, and the subject is seen bending into the new hole in the floor before the camera cuts out again. When the picture returns, the subject has presumably climbed down a ladder and into the sealed area.)

Stinks down here. Like cleaning chemicals and stale air. Weird for it to smell so clean if it's been sealed for a while.

(Subject attempts to activate the lights. The hallway lights flicker, then turn red.)

That's not ominous at all. I guess something is draining the power to this area. At least it's still attached to the main supply.

(The sound of something clanging comes from deeper in the sector. Subject visibly pales as the sound of footsteps emanates.)

Yeah, maybe this was a bad idea. Boredom problem fixed, time to go.

(A humanoid figure appears in the flickering red lights down the hall. Subject tries to climb the ladder but slips and falls to the ground. The subject is presumably unconscious, as the camera remains still as a figure comes into view. It appears to be an older model B-0K android.)

(Auditor Note: The B-0K's were notoriously unreliable due to programming errors. Records indicate this site had one assigned to it, but the model was reported to be in an accident and was decommissioned and destroyed.)

Are you in need of assistance?

(The B-0K reaches down, and the perspective shifts as the subject is picked up and carried up the ladder.)

(Recording ends.)
