Null and Void: Log Three - Perimeter Sweep (Unsuccessful)

Transcript of the third recovered log. Found at Site 237-A, Sector G.

(mic crackles on)

"Still here. Not dead. So I guess that’s a win."

(camera turns on, showing Ruck sweating and covered in dust. There's a smear of blood along his forehead.)

"Turns out the old storage wing? Yeah. Wasn't actually empty."

"Wish it had been. Really do."

So, it's been a couple of days since I've recorded everything. Not that this isn't a riveting one-sided conversation, but survival takes precedence over companionship with a camera. Though I have missed the grating whir of your inner workings.

(Ruck wipes grime and blood from his brow and looks over his shoulder.)

Oh? The blood? Don’t worry, I’ll get to that. Let’s just say...it had teeth.

Anyway, I forted up in the locker room. I know what you're going to say, "Ruck! Why didn't you make home base the barracks? They've got beds and everything!"

First of all, I'm the boss here, and you can mind your business. Second, the barracks are a good fifty-yard walk through the base to the locker room AND kitchen. Why walk back and forth through unsecured territory when I can have access to fuel, water, appliances, and storage at the same time? All I had to do was disassemble one of the beds and set it up in the locker room and I have all the basics.

And yeah, you heard me right, the water works. The showers all run. It's cold water, but it's better than stinking. It's technically gray water, not fit for consumption, but if I boil the crap out of it and run it through some filters it might be okay to drink. Guess I'll find out when I try it.

By the All Father, wouldn't that be embarrassing? Dying of the shits? What a way to be written down by Zaman in the Book of Time.

Anyway, I busted a hole in the wall between the kitchen and my new home and welded the doors shut to the locker room. I don't have the resources to watch two doors at once, so it seemed easiest. The hallway leading to the barracks and the supervisor's rooms is useless at this point, so I walled off that whole wing. There are some cracks in the walls big enough for me to fit through, and I don't want anything sneaking in that way while my back is turned.

But that got me thinking. There's a storage wing to this place. One that might have leftover supplies from previous crews. I thought it was a good idea to check it out. It wasn't.

(a banging sound comes from the distance. Ruck freezes and stays still until it stops.)

Yeah, that's what I was getting to. Whatever the roak that is came out of the darkness like I owed it money. I really need to find that information dossier on Jargun-Ba. I should've read it before I got down here, not like it would've helped too much.

Whatever it was was humanoid, had long arms, and had a penchant for biting. Hopefully, there aren't more of them.

(more banging, closer now)

I gotta go check my barricades. If that thing figures out a way through, I'm cooked.

(recording ends)
